The Final Countdown to the Investment Cup Final…

Stage 1 – Archerfield Links – Thursday, 13th June 2007

Nine teams battled it out on the fairways of Archerfield Links in Scotland on June 13, for a place in The Investment Cup 2007 final, in association with Financial Express.

Top asset management companies and their clients found themselves in a mammoth play-off on a state of the art championship course in unpredictable summer weather conditions.

All teams put in a mighty performance but the shining stars were Alan Adam, Graeme Currie, Steven Forbes and Mark Thomas of the winning team – River Mercantile Asset Management.

“The weather was not ideal, but the team overcame the conditions as our key aim was always to win this cup. First stage achieved and now we’re looking forward to the second stage and beating the winners from Brockett Hall in the final play-off,” says Mark Thomas of River Mercantile Asset Management.

Individuals were also put through their paces in a test to find the golfer with the longest drive and the player ‘nearest to the pin’. David Walker of Skandia claimed the longest drive title, whilst Alan Adam of River Mercantile could claim his second victory of the day with the ‘nearest to the pin’ crown.

Aside from the main competition, teams were impressed by a 45-minute display showcasing the striking power and accuracy of Paul Barrington, the World Golf Trick Shot Champion 2005/06, who records one of the fastest swing speeds in the world at 143 mph and earned his name 'The Striker' by making even the longest tour player seem human.

“Our congratulations go to the winners of The Investment Cup Scotland, River and Mercantile, and our thanks go to all the players for participating. The competition was fierce, yet friendly, throughout the competition, and we look forward to the ultimate playoff between the Scotland and England winners.” Paul Wynne, Financial Express.
