Andrea Rozario - Director General , SHIP
Andrea Rozario


Andrea was appointed Director General of SHIP in October 2007 and began her role in December. Andrea is responsible for developing strategy and communications activity with a range of SHIP’s stakeholders and increasing understanding about equity release among consumer and relevant organisations. Andrea heads SHIP’s management board, managing the execution of decisions from the main SHIP board. She began working in financial services 15 years ago and in July 2004, she set up Rozario Harris and Co Ltd, an independent, whole of market IFA specializing in the equity release market which she ran until her appointment as Director General.

Andy has over twenty years experience in Financial Services, initially in Training and Management Development, and for the last ten years in Marketing and Product Management.

He joined BBG from HBOS, where his roles included savings and a number of positions within the mortgage business. His current job involves responsibility for product development, pricing and marketing for the Group’s two mortgage brands, Mortgage Express and Bradford & Bingley, covering the buy-to-let, self-cert, first time buyer, lifetime and mainstream mortgage markets.

He lives in the Yorkshire Dales with his wife and two daughters, and is based in Crossflatts in Yorkshire, but spends part of each week in London.

Chris Pearson
Chris Pearson


Mr Pearson has worked in the financial services industry for 16 years

He began his career with HBoS in its Asset Finance division, working his way to becoming National Sales Manager for the Vendor Business division. In 2004 he moved into the mortgage sector, becoming Head of National Accounts for Halifax Intermediaries before moving on to Head of Sales and Marketing for BM Solutions where he oversaw the regional and national sales teams as well as marketing.

In April 2007 he joined the RBS Group to lead the intermediary mortgage arm RBS Intermediary Partners.

David Hollingworth - L&C Mortgages
David Hollingworth


L&C Mortgages is a fee-free, whole of market broker operating in the prime, Buy to Let and non-conforming sectors. As L&C’s Head of Communications, David provides regular industry and market comment to national and trade press and broadcast media. This ranges from opinion on new product developments to providing a wider perspective on topical market issues

Outside work David is a keen football fan, following the fortunes of Manchester United.

Jeremy moved from the Lake District to the south to start his professional career in The District Valuer's Office at Redhill. Whilst here he was regularly involved in the valuation of a wide variety of properties including mushroom farms, petrol filling stations, pubs and, of course, houses.

Jeremy qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1978 having obtained an honours degree in Estate Management at Reading University. In the late 1970s he entered private practice with the well known firm of Fuller, Moon and Fuller in Croydon. Whilst here he carried out structural surveys and valuations throughout south west London, Surrey and Sussex.

He moved on to the Worcestershire/Herefordshire borders and spent a brief period combining his favoured surveying duties with estate agency. However, he missed the challenges of London and the busy south east and quickly returned, joining Bridgers based in Surrey.

Jeremy subsequently became a Regional Director of the reformed Hamptons group and was responsible for professional services throughout London, Surrey, Sussex and Kent.

Jeremy left Hamptons in 1990 to form Ashdown Lyons and enjoys being involved in the exciting growth and management of the company. He is now Chief Executive of Ashdown Lyons, Southern England's largest independent Chartered Surveyors, and the independent status means that Ashdown Lyons will not compromise standards or expectations. Ashdown Lyons strives to achieve its core principles of Quality, Service and Communication and provide a service tailor made to specifically meet the needs of its client partners.

John Cupis
John Cupis


John Cupis joined Sesame as Head of Mortgages and GI in May 2007. This is a new position to take forward the growth and development of one of the largest mortgage distribution businesses in the UK.

Previously he has worked for Legal & General for 7 years, most recently as Mortgages & Propositions Director. In 2006 he was voted as the Business Leader winner of the Mortgage Club category at the British Mortgage Awards.

He also has extensive lending experience gained from working at NatWest where his role spanned international finance, consumer marketing and mortgage marketing culminating in roles at NatWest Home Loans which included pricing, product development and customer retention.

John Malone - Managing Director Premier Mortgage Service
John Malone


John Malone is regarded as one of the most influential individuals in the mortgage industry. Known as the Godfather of the industry he is a sought after commentator having spent over 35 years in the business.

Premier Mortgage Service is the UK’s largest mortgage club for intermediaries. During 2004, Bankhall acquired Premier Mortgage Service from Prudential and latterly merged it with the Norwich Union Mortgage Club, which it also acquired during that year, both of which having a substantial share of the mortgage intermediary market

John established mortgage business for Scottish Amicable in 1996 where he progressed the business from lending £1.3 billion at the end 1997 to £40bn+ at end 2007.

He revolutionised the mortgage industry with a business model that included the introduction of “yellow sticky labels”, direct submissions to the lender, and procuration fees paid direct from the lender to the intermediary. The business volumes for last year represents approximately 12% of total UK lending.

John was previously managing director of the Financial Service Division of Slater Hogg & Howison Estate Agents (Scotland), and managing director of Mortgage Shops UK Ltd, the property services financial division for TSB. He was also a main board director for TSB Property Services Scotland & England, and prior to that he had 15 years in the life industry being head of sales for Head of Sales for a Scottish Life Office.

John sits on a variety of influential related boards within the mortgage industry, this is coupled to his chairing of many industry events throughout the year.

Matthew Wyles - Group Executive Director, Non Retail - Nationwide Building Society
Matthew Wyles


Matthew joined Nationwide following the completion of the merger with Portman Building Society in September 2007. His Group responsibilities encompass all of Nationwide’s non retail businesses including the commercial, intermediary and specialist lending divisions across the Nationwide, TMW and UCB brands

Michael Clapper - CEO, Enterprise Group
Michael Clapper


Enterprise Group is widely recognised as one of the largest and most innovative providers of broker services in the UK, specialising in the ‘safe’ distribution and packaging of sub-prime mortgages, secured loans, bridging finance and commercial loans, often under branded arrangements for many of the UK’s major networks.

In May 2006, Enterprise launched its unique EDGE sourcing system, to industry-wide critical acclaim, Version 2 was launched at the Mortgage Business Expo in November 2007 and by the end of Jan 2008 had almost 9000 registered users.

Enterprise also qualified for in 31st place in the Sunday Times FastTrack 100 fastest growing UK companies.

Michael Goldman - Managing Director, Goldman Group
Mike Goldman


Michael Goldman is Managing Director of the Goldman Group, a Manchester based company. The Goldman Group includes several divisions, each of which provides clients with: Qualified, Specialist, Independent advice.

Currently these divisions include; Mortgages, Insurance, Debt Solutions, Home Information Packs & Property.

Michael won mainstream mortgage broker of the year in the 2006 British Mortgage Awards ceremony and was invited to join the judging panel in 2007 & again for 2008.

Mike Maddin - Group Chief Executive, Lexicon Group of Companies
Mike Maddin


Mike Maddin is the Group Chief Executive of the Lexicon Group of Companies. With a solid background in the fast paced and competitive world of financial services, surveying and estate agency, Mike has never lacked ambition. Always commercial in his thinking he has not only seen opportunities but seized them to shape and focus the strategic agendas for the successful companies within the Group that he heads today; these include Robert Sterling Financial Services, W J Meade Estate Agents, Lexicon Surveying Services and the newly launched Lexicon Energy.

Philip Jenks - Chief Operating Officer, Mortgages
Philip Jenks


A member of 'Post War Baby Boom', born in Warrington when it was in Lancashire. Although educated to be a Lawyer my first career move took me straight into the Mortgage Industry. I joined Halifax Building Society in Liverpool in 1972.

In 1984 in a significant career switch I joined the Management Team in Mortgages and since then have held roles across all disciplines from Product Design, Marketing, Risk Management and Distribution Strategy. With each merger and evolution into the HBOS Group new challenges were provided to the Executive Team including most recently the development of the unique 5 Brand approach to the market.

Throughout my time in HBOS its market leading position has allowed me to undertake consultancy roles including supporting the evolution of Mortgage Banks in the Czech Republic and in Turkey, and product consultancy support for Banks in South Africa and Australia. The growing portfolio of HBOS Mortgage Lending across the Netherlands, Spain, The Irish Republic and Australia has maintained this worldwide experience.

A sports fanatic, a season ticket holder at Manchester United and an active supporter of Lancashire Country Cricket and Warrington Wolves.

Stephen Smith - Housing Director, Legal & General
Stephen Smith


Stephen Smith is Housing Director at Legal & General and has worked in the mortgage industry for 30 years. After working at Abbey National, The Mortgage Corporation and Homeloan Management Limited, he joined Legal & General in 1994. He is responsible for Legal & General’s Mortgage Club, estate agency franchise and surveying businesses. He was appointed to the Board of the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries in February 2003 and is currently Deputy Chair.
